Active Release Techniques®
Active Release Techniques (ART®) treatment is a hands-on, movement-oriented system that allows a chiropractor to offer diagnosis and treat soft-tissue injuries safely and effectively. “Soft tissues” refers to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves – these structures can be injured through repetitive strain, adhesions, tissue hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and joint dysfunction. Areas of tenderness, tension, adhesions and knots within muscles respond positively and rapidly to the specific protocols of ART®.
When soft tissue has been injured or is chronically tight, it forms scar tissue. This is a normal healing response but often causes problems when scar tissue sticks to adjacent structures leading to a reduced range of motion, compression or pulling on nerves and altered body mechanics. The change of the texture of these structures can be felt by an experienced ART® provider, and subsequently treated with amazing success.
Dr. Gerber is a certified provider in upper body, lower body, spine, nerve entrapment and Masters ART®. She sees and treats patients with sports injuries, MVAs, Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI), Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTD), chronic postural faults and muscle imbalance.
As the name implies, Active Release uses motion to fix the problem as the provider uses hands on treatment to “free up” the problem areas.
