Walking Your Way to Wellness

Woman crossing street.

Going somewhere? If it’s not too far away, consider walking instead of driving.

Want to bring some unexpected joy into your life? Try some lighthearted, low stress exercise.

Most of us don’t move enough. Many of us sit most of the day. This lack of movement can profoundly affect our health and well-being.

Introducing… walking!

It’s free, it’s easy, it doesn’t require any fancy equipment or membership, it’s convenient, there’s no set schedule and you can do it almost anywhere.

The benefits of walking are well documented. Walking can increase your life expectancy, reduce cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure, improve your mental health and your outlook on life.

Daily walks can improve the quality of your sleep and lower cholesterol. Walking also improves muscle strength and builds bone mass. And there’s more:

  • Reduced body fat
  • Increased bone density
  • Lowered blood pressure

While most people can easily understand the physical benefits of walking, the mental/emotional benefits are often overlooked. Walking can improve self-esteem, reduce stress and anxiety, and make you feel good. Walking in a beautiful natural environment can relax you and provide you with the time you need to engage in personal introspection.

Ready to get started?

First, get the best shoes for you. Many people respond very well to moving toward barefoot or minimalist footwear, but takes time, dedication and work to re-train the 32 joints below the ankle, plus all of the supporting structures from the ground up. If you want to stick with traditional footwear, choose the appropriate level of support for your bio-mechanics, and custom made orthotics can be a great option. We are happy to advise you on this, provide you with a custom foot, leg and hip mobilization program, and point you in the direction of some great resources.  Remember to stretch well after your muscles are warm, particularly the calves and hamstrings. Start out slow. Ease into it slowly and increase your pace and distance gradually until you’re where you want to be.

Just like any other type of physical activity, you’ll want to walk on a regular basis if you want to see and feel the results. Many of us overlook even small opportunities to walk. Park further out and walk to the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

A brisk walk for 30 minutes a day will do wonders for your physical and mental health.

And before starting your walking program, stop by for a chiropractic checkup. Make sure your exercise program doesn’t stress malfunctioning joints of your legs, hips and spine. Then, get up from behind the computer, grab a friend and start walking.

Which comes first, health or wellbeing? The answer may surprise you…Science and spirituality agree that it's wellbeing that creates health, not the other way around. Stress is a trouble. Is it? Well, when you hear people say they are "under a lot of stress, you immediately know what they are talking about. It,s that "key-up" feeling associated with everyday life. When we are stressed we feel unable to deal with the demands of our environment, and we feel tense and uncomfortable. True is that not everyone feel same way. Are the stresses and strains of modern society much worse that they were in the good old days, or do they just seem that way? I can see that the shift from the old, rular life to the modern, more urban civilization we see today has made thinks easy or easier in some respect, but hurder in others. Today we have a comfortable standards of living, but are we really happy ? you need to ask yourself question: What is mean actually happiness for me ? Do I feel and see yourself happy and healthy person? If not, how I get there? Firstly, you need to acknowledge your problem which cause you stress, or negative problem, work with it or let it go. Stress also does have positive aspect- it can motivate us to move forward, be more productive and achieve great things. The fact is, we have changed our environment more quickly than we know how to change yourself. It is easier to identify the physical feelings than to explain them. Coming with and reducing stress is the process of managing the perceived discrepancy between the demands and resources of a particular situation. Bodily pain can come from muscles that are contracted over prolonged periods, and muscular contraction is a normal reaction to stress. When comes to emotional stress- tension that could be more painful and complicated than physical aspect. everything in this world is accomplished by the transformation of one kind of energy into another, which is also true for personal circumstances of our life. Unpleasant emotions are connected to extreme tension or chronic, repeating tension. Emotions can be stored as potential energy in our muscles. as well as the DNA. There are many modalities to ease the tension and one and parful one is Chiropractic Adjustments, I use to call it Cracking the bones. Really, the name is not important but the effect is wellbeing that creates the health. "Man who says it cannot be done, should not interrupt man doing it". Heal the soul first, then healing of the mind and body will follow!
